With the online reading of Tirant lo Blanc, by Joanot Martorell, Benidorm City Council has celebrated the fourth edition of Dia de les Lletres Valencianes on November 20, coinciding with the anniversary of the publication of the first edition of this work in 1490.

The Department of Historical Heritage has organized one more year the collective reading that, given the special circumstances of the health crisis caused by Covid-19, has been forced to change the traditional scenario of L' Hort de Colón, online.

At 10.30, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, began reading through the videoconference platform, Zoom. After him the councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer; that of Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez; representatives of the different municipal groups and citizens who have joined the commemoration recalling the adventures of Tirant and his beloved Carmesina.

Tirant lo Blanc is considered one of the most important books of world literature and the masterpiece of the Valencian Golden Age. Started by Martorell, it was finished by Martí Joan de Galba. Miguel de Cervantes himself defined it in the mouth of Don Quixote as “the best book in the world” and “Tesoro de contento y mina de pasatiempos”.
