Benidorm begins the ignition tests of the new catenary of Paseo de Levante

05 May 2023
Catenaria de Levante

The new catenary of Paseo de Levante, one of the most representative emblems of Benidorm, is taking shape and burning stages until its complete completion. Thus, last night the first tests were carried out on the sections already installed with the switching on of the new luminaires and points of light in the part closest to Avenida Europa.

And the results could not be more encouraging, according to the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, who highlighted "the enormous possibilities offered by this new system" with which a wide range of colors can be displayed in the so-called 'archipoints' ' and make numerous light compositions that enhance the attractiveness and image of the catenary.

So far, six sections of catenary have already been installed, whose placement began at the height of Avenida Europa. "It has been verified that the wiring works perfectly and that everything is going correctly according to the deadlines and planned stages" indicated Pérez, who praised "the color changes and the scenery that the RGB system of the archipoints allows".

As the installation progresses, the operation of the sections will continue to be checked and tested "by doing more tests and leaving the catenary in operation." The installation of the entire catenary, a total of 1,536 archipoints, 40 luminaires, and 80 projectors, is expected to be completed throughout May.

The next phase will be the programming of the lighting scenarios "for which specialized technical assistance is required so that the programming of each of the light points and the multiple compositions can be operational by the end of June".

The overall intervention for the renovation of the lighting of Paseo de Levante represents an investment of 1,972,119.41 euros that will be financed with municipal resources charged to the treasury remnants as it is a financially sustainable project, since the reduction of the energy power, once the intervention is finished, will be 33.65%.

This work has also entailed a new design of the columns, which includes an 11-meter, five-millimeter-thick dodecagonal pole and a three-meter-long upper lance cone, giving a total height of 14 meters. Each one has a crosshead for two projectors and another one to support the catenary garlands. The finish is a white-baked thermo-lacquer.

The mayor highlighted in this sense that "the works are developing at a very good pace, which will allow us to have a completely renewed catenary in this important section from Europe to Torrejó before the summer." Pérez added that despite being a long-awaited action "the road has been full of difficulties because we demanded that the Ministry carry out the work as it is within their competence, but their refusal to do so led the City Council to do it."
