Benidorm Bay hosts the 12th 'Mare de Deu del Sofratge' rowing trophy this Sunday with 60 teams from across the Valencian Community

La bahía de Benidorm acoge este domingo el XII Trofeo ‘Mare de Deu del Sofratge’ de remo con 60 equipos de toda la Comunitat Valenciana

The waters of Benidorm Bay will host the 9th Lilga Suma Llaüt Fixed Seat Rowing Regatta this coming Sunday, March 29th, with the race starting at 9:00 AM. This 12th "Mare de Déu del Sofratge" Trophy, organised by the Valencian Community Rowing Federation and the Benidorm Yacht Club, with the collaboration of the City Council, will feature 60 teams from across the Valencian Community, totalling 550 athletes.

As explained by the Councillor for Sports, Javier Jordá, the regatta will have different categories "from cadets to male and female veterans, as well as men's and women's open categories." In addition, the SCM (breast cancer survivor) category will also be held, in which the Anémona team will participate.

The event is expected to draw a large number of fans, including athletes and visitors. The forecast predicts a sunny day with northeast winds of around eight knots. "This will surely make for a challenging race due to the sea conditions and will make the starts more difficult for the race officials, but it will undoubtedly make it more exciting," stated the councillor.

The regatta will take place near the Yacht Club, parallel to the port's breakwater, with the starting line near the green lighthouse and turning buoys near the Geyser. These are track races with four lanes, each 350 meters long. The junior and senior categories will cover a distance of 1,400 meters, while the cadet, veteran, and SCM categories will cover a total of 700 meters.

The president of the Yacht Club, Jaime Samper, indicated that the organisation he leads "is working hard to organise this new edition so that everyone who attends can enjoy Benidorm and its beautiful bay." Both the president and his Board of Directors and the Councillor for Sports have invited "all citizens of Benidorm and visitors who wish to do so to come to the Nautical Club and experience this wonderful sport up close."
