'Tourism of Emotions' project, promoted by nine Secondary Schools and Institutes (IES) of the Valencian Community, including four centers in Benidorm, reaches the street. City Council Benidorm has installed three totems in some of the most iconic points of the city, where tourists and visitors can find information about this project that advocates healthy leisure and in which students from the International School Lope de Vega and IES L'Almadrava, Mediterrània and Beatriu Fajardo de Mendoza.
The mayor, Toni Pérez, explained that "when installing these totems we have looked for emblematic points of Benidorm that also register an important transit of tourists, in order to give more visibility to these explanatory landmarks and with them to the project". Thus, the totems have been installed at the gates of the El Torrejó Municipal Center, in which the Tourism Office is located; next to the access scalars to the Mirador del Castell; and at the confluence of Elche Park with Paseo de Colón.
Toni Pérez has visited these three points with the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer; the councillor of Social Welfare, Ángela Llorca; representatives and students of the educational centers of Benidorm involved in the project; and the manager of Visit Benidorm, Leire Bilbao.
In addition to a brief description of the project and the name of the participating centers, these totems have a QR code that links to the website of 'Turismo de Emociones'. On this website, the students themselves explain the details and objectives of the project in a video. Also, the totem refers to the 'Route of Emotions' of Benidorm designed by students with proposals for healthy leisure and that users can check in through the 'app' Geo Aumentaty.
The mayor recalled that this 'Tourism of Emotions' emanates from the project 'Positive Disrupters', promoted by the International School Lope de Vega and joined by the IES L'Almadrava, Mediterrània and Beatriu Fajardo de Mendoza, as well as the Andreu institutes Sempere (Alcoy) and Historian Chabás (Denia) and the schools San Agustín (Alicante), La Devesa (Elche) and Los Naranjos (Gandía).
This project 'Disrupters' received the Tourism Award 'Ciudad de Benidorm' 2017 in the local-autonomic category, which recognized the success of this initiative aimed at companies and public administrations implement measures against tourism of excesses and in favor of Healthy experiences
The initiative of these 1,000 young people between 14 and 17 years has managed to reach the Senate, where a motion has been approved that asks that leisure be studied in school curriculums to avoid excess tourism. This motion was presented by Senator Agustín Almodóbar last February with the support of all the groups and it is now the corresponding Government that must comply with the mandate of the Senate.
