The City Council installs lugs in Ciudad Jardín-Saladar district and with a new bus stop improves traffic in Peru Street

Annual tree pruning will begin next week at Colonia Madrid district

26 September 2019
La poda anual de árboles se iniciará la semana próxima en la Colonia Madrid

The Councilors of Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, and Works, Public Space and Street Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate, today have held a working meeting with representatives of the association Foietes-Estación-Vía Beniardá, in which the vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario and municipal technicians and concessionaires also have participated.

After touring the neighborhood, and knowing the needs of the association, González de Zárate has been very satisfied with the "positive" of the weekly meetings. "There are many citizens - he said - that send us requests that, little by little, are becoming reality."

The association of Foietes has suggested that the tree pits of the sidewalks be covered "so that the neighbors can move" safely. González de Zárate has guaranteed them that “practically in two weeks” they will have covered all of Colonia Madrid. Likewise, the neighbors have raised deficiencies in street lighting because the tree-lined streets produce shade. In this regard, the head of Urban Space has announced that next week will begin the annual pruning campaign that will begin precisely in the neighborhood.

González de Zárate recalled that the lighting of Colonia Madrid has been largely renewed only a few months ago with the replacement of the old sodium vapor models with modern LED luminaires. He stressed that the investment has meant a "significant economic savings" that although "meets all light audits strictly" is of a lower intensity to avoid light pollution to what "we must get used to" to ensure better quality of life.

On the issues raised in previous meetings with neighbors, González de Zárate has said that in Ciudad Jardín-Saladar the construction of accessibility lugs has begun in Primavera Street, within the Mobility Plan, and more will be done “because they are narrow streets and in areas of zebra crossings, people with reduced mobility have some difficulties. ”

González de Zárate has also specified that part of the problems with bus traffic in Perú Street has already been solved with the creation of a new stop “so that cars can travel”. In the old town, the repair of pavement and cleaning of posters work continues. In Huerta district, the repair of potholes on the roads and cleaning actions continue.
