The three murders have been committed in Madrid: a 37-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman with her daughter who was only 5

Silent condemnation in Benidorm for the last three sexist crimes in our country

28 November 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

This Tuesday, the municipal corporation of Benidorm observed a minute of silence at  Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España to show its resounding rejection of the last three sexist crimes in our country. The rally was led by the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, who was also accompanied by other members of the Municipal Corporation. The victims are two women and the youngest daughter of one of them, all of them murdered in Madrid.

In recent hours, the Ministry of Equality has confirmed as a case of sexist violence the death of a 37-year-old woman who was strangled in front of their two children aged 2 and 3 last Saturday at home by her partner, a 42-year-old soldier from Madrid who was been arrested. Since then, the woman was taken to Gregorio Marañón hospital in Madrid, where she died this Monday, November 27.

The second crime is that of a 25-year-old woman, who was stabbed by her ex-partner in the parking lot of her home, located in Madrid in the neighborhood of Carabanchel, this Monday. The attacker, 26 years old and now in custody, also murdered their daughter, a girl of only 5 years old, with the same method, before trying to commit suicide. The woman had filed previous complaints for mistreatment and was registered in the VioGen police system along with her alleged murderer and classified as a high-risk case, but the aggressor ended up being acquitted.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Equality has also ruled out the murder of a woman on April 27 in the province of Cádiz as a sexist crime, which was initially investigated as an alleged case of gender violence.

With this update of the data, the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners in Spain so far this year has risen to 53 and 1,238 since 2003, the date on which victims of violence against women began to be counted. Likewise, the number of minors murdered by sexist violence is 2 and has risen to 50 since 2013. There are also another 53 minors who have been orphaned so far this year, a figure that has risen to 430 since 2013.

The Department of Equality recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the mobile call log.
