Benidorm City Council hosts the presentation of 'Los nombres sobre la arena', the unpublished novel by Pere Maria Orts i Bosch
Last night, Monday, Benidorm Town Hall Assembly Hall hosted the presentation of 'Los Nombres sobre la arena', an unpublished novel by Pere Maria Orts i Bosch that narrates the political, religious, social, and cultural situation of Benidorm in the post-Civil War. Specifically, between the years 39 to 59.
The Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, attended the presentation of this work along with other representatives of the Municipal Corporation and a large audience, to support the editor Vicente J. Sanjuán and Vicente Ibáñez Orts, Pere Maria's nephew and who made it possible for this novel was published eight years after the death of its author.
Both explained the novel was written by the scholar in 1961 when he “was still writing fiction and was not clear about his vocation as a historian,” but it remained unfinished and unpublished. Almost four decades later, coinciding with the centenary of his birth and with the declaration of the 'Pere Maria Orts i Bosch Year' in 2021 by the Benidorm City Council, the writer's nephew recovered the texts and began an exhaustive review, with the help of several collaborators, which has now culminated with the publication of the book.
