Professors Francisco Amillo and Antonio Bravo receive the Naval History Research Awards from Frax Foundation and the City Council

Yesterday, the Frax Foundation and the Benidorm City Council presented the Naval History Research Awards in their fourth edition, which went to professors Francisco Amillo and Antonio Bravo. The first of them for his work 'Benidorm: sea, tourism and men of the sea. Sailors of Benidorm, great at sea, great on land', endowed with 3,000 euros by the Foundation. As regards Benidorm City Council Award, with a prize of 1,500 euros, went to the study entitled 'The Ordinances of the Navy and the Consulate of the Sea in tapestries, letters from Puebla and Corso de Benidorm', presented by Professor Antonio Bravo.

Mayor Toni Pérez and Admiral Enrique Torres presented the awards in an event that was held in the Assembly Hall of the City Hall with the presence of municipal authorities and the Spanish Navy.

Pérez closed the event by highlighting the “relationship of the city with the sea” and highlighted the awards that “incentivize research” and that doubling the endowment for next year “will make it possible to attract researchers from outside.” The mayor also said that "these works that are being awarded today deepen the historical relationship of the city with everything that has to do with the sea." At that point, he recalled that “fishing gave way to brave men who defended the coast and Spain, and who later played a prominent role in the Navy and the merchant marine.” Toni Pérez emphasized that Benidorm is “a city that has always looked to the sea.” and that he has had it as a reference.” To conclude, he also encouraged the Frax Foundation “to continue being the heart that beats strongly so that the seafaring tradition is not lost and that it is disseminated.”

After the awards ceremony, the 'Leadership at Sea' conference took place by retired Admiral Marcial Gamboa Pérez-Pardo, which closed the first edition of the 'Sea Days' that will continue next year.

The admiral focused his conference on the prevailing philosophy of enhancing the leadership capacity of the components in the Spanish Armed Forces and in particular the Navy. Marcial Gamboa recalled his career, since his entry into the Marín Naval Academy, and highlighted the importance of collective culture and the development of training systems “for the enhancement of personal leadership as a nuclear part to understand a modern conception of professional competence of the military: responsibility, active listening, collaboration, courage and communication.”

From his time as director of the Naval Academy, he emphasized the interest in “training, inspiring and motivating” future officers and chiefs committed to values ​​and principles, “who anticipate needs: authentic leaders who know how to lead teams for better service to Spain".
