Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España hosts the exhibition 'Tierra de sueños' by Cristina García Rodero until July 11

Benidorm City Council and 'La Caixa' Foundation have presented today the photographic exhibition 'Tierra de sueños' by the artist Cristina García Rodero, a show of 40 images that can be visited at Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España from tomorrow and until next July 11.

The exhibition reflects the daily life of the inhabitants of Anantapur, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, one of the poorest areas of the country where the most marginal and vulnerable communities in India live. This exhibition is part of the program 'Arte en la calle', through which La Caixa Foundation aims to bring art closer to people outside the usual framework of museums and exhibition halls.

The exhibition has been inaugurated by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez; the director of La CaixaBank Business Area in Benidorm, Carlos Colom; the delegate of La Caixa Foundation in the Valencian Community, Lourdes Toribio; and the author of the photographs herself.

The photographs can be seen 24 hours a day, since the exhibition is open for free visits, although there will also be guided tours for the general public. Specifically, on Saturdays at 10 am they will be held in Valencian and on Sundays at 7 pm in Spanish. School group visits have also been scheduled from Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Telephone 900-801137 has also been enabled to make an appointment for a visit.

Mayor Toni Pérez recalled in his speech that in recent summers "the photographs of La Caixa have played a great role in the city" and referred to the recently inaugurated exhibition to underline that "it talks about the land and dreams, what Cristina García Rodero has been able to capture, the dreams of the people of the earth”.

The Councilor for Culture, for his part, has highlighted that since 1999 there are already 16 exhibitions of the La Caixa Foundation in Benidorm "which have reached more than 280,000 people". In this exhibition, the councillor has pointed out that "it shows the uniqueness of the rural world in India and gives voice to the people who appear in the photographs".

Finally, the author has stressed that her goal with this work was "to show where Vicente Ferrer Foundation works and where the money the foundation receive goes." She has specified that she worked "for 45 days without stopping because I felt very committed." Cristina García has also detailed the difficulties of working in that country “but when you work hard you can, and Vicente Ferrer Foundation also makes doors open everywhere. You can see with your own eyes how those most in need are helped.”
