Benidorm celebrates the National Day of Spanish Sign Languages

Benidorm City Council, together with the Association of Deaf People of Benidorm (Apesobe), today joins the celebration of the National Day of Spanish Sign Languages, illuminating its three most emblematic enclaves in turquoise blue: the Castell, the Tossal de la Cala and the facade of the Consistory.

In addition, from the first hour, a commemorative banner of this event is displayed, which it is intended to promote the dissemination of sign language and normalize its use beyond the domestic, educational or socio-health fields.

This anniversary has been celebrated since 2014, in commemoration of the constitution, on June 14, 1936, of the State Confederation of Deaf People (CNSE), an organization that works for equal opportunities for deaf people through policies aimed at removing the barriers that prevent them from exercising their rights.

It is estimated that in Spain around 70,000 people use sign language to communicate.
