Minute of silence in Benidorm after the murder of a woman in Borriana was confirmed as a sexist crime

06 July 2021
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm tras confirmarse como crimen machista el asesinato de una mujer en Borriana

Benidorm City Council has observed a minute of silence this afternoon in memory of the woman murdered on April 21 in Borriana, after confirming the Government Delegation against Gender Violence that it is a sexist crime.
With the concentration, headed by the acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, the City Council expresses its strongest rejection of sexist violence and reaffirms its commitment to this social scourge.
In this case, it is a 42-year-old woman, whose body was found on April 22 on a road in the town of Castellón. On June 29, the Civil Guard detained a man as a suspect in the alleged murder who to this day remains in provisional prison.
This is the second sexist crime in the Valencian Community in 2021. With it, there are already 24 women victims of sexist violence in Spain so far this year and since 2003, the year in which the statistics began to be computed, there are already 1,102 murdered women.
The Department of Equality recalls that the free telephone number 016 provides an information service, legal advice and psychosocial care for victims of sexist violence. It serves in 52 languages 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls to this number are not reflected in the telephone bill, although it is recommended to delete it from the mobile phone registry.
