Benidorm City Council, through Social Welfare, assumes 100% of assistance to almost 60 minors in ordinary and inclusion classrooms

FAMPA Marina Baixa Summer School once again breaks a record and exceeds 550 students in two months

08 August 2024
La Escuela de Verano de la FAMPA Marina Baixa vuelve a registrar un récord y supera los 550 alumnos en dos meses

The Summer School organised by FAMPA Marina Baixa, in close collaboration with the Education and Social Welfare Councillors, has reached again a record number of participants this year with 340 students enrolled during July and 220 in August. In total, more than 550 students in these two months.

There has also been a maximum number of attendees at the canteen service provided within the activity, with an average of more than 200 diners in July and 120 in August. Mayor Toni Pérez has today visited the Summer School that is taking place at the Vasco Núñez de Balboa school together with the Education and Social Welfare Councillors, Maite Moreno and Ángela Zaragozí.

The mayor has emphasised that “we meet all the demands of the numerous families in Benidorm who increasingly trust in this service that is promoted by the Town Hall and with which we collaborate in its organisation with FAMPA Marina Baixa”. The attendance figures show “the suitability of this educational initiative that facilitates conciliation for a good number of families in Benidorm, and in which the youngest learn while having fun and sharing experiences.”

In this sense, the program has, in addition to the canteen service, the ‘Escola matinera’ and ‘Escola de vesprada’. “It covers the entire time slot from 7.30 to 17 hours, which makes work-life balance much easier,” Pérez stressed.

As in previous years, families have had the possibility of enrolling their sons and daughters, between 3 and 14 years old, for weeks, fortnights or for the whole month, adapting the Summer School as much as possible to the needs of each home. The City Council subsidises up to 50% of the cost of registration for all families registered in the city, with a financial contribution that this year has been 18,000 euros and which is allocated to the educational part of the Summer School programme.

Likewise, the council, through the Department of Social Welfare, has also subsidised the stay in the programme for 45 students in ordinary classrooms and another 14 in inclusion classrooms, with two integration groups as well.

Finally, the mayor stressed during the visit that the Summer School “is added to the rest of the educational, social, training and sports resources launched by the City Council” during the summer period “to attend to the children and youngest members of the family” and “facilitate work and family for the citizens of Benidorm”.
