The Benidorm City Council is putting out to tender new improvement works for the fire protection of the El Moralet park. This action, which is part of the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) of Benidorm, reinforces the adaptation action of El Moralet completed last year with forestry work and surveillance cameras to protect this urban green lung from fires.

“We continue to improve the El Moralet park, a green lung that we regenerated and made available to citizens last year with the EDUSI, with a new action that will help us conserve and protect this area from fires,” explained the mayor. from Benidorm Toni Pérez. “Last year we already created a firebreak area and installed fire hydrants, measures that we are now expanding to protect the environmental protection of El Moralet.”

These works, in tender, complete the already completed adaptation project of El Moralet with more work to clear and clean the vegetation. “One of the new features is the installation of autonomous fire surveillance cameras, which will transmit live images of El Moralet to the Benidorm fire station,” added Mayor Toni Pérez. “In addition, these cameras are sustainable: they are powered by solar energy thanks to their photovoltaic panels.”

The forestry work will be carried out on the 60 hectares that were left out of the first phase of the adaptation of El Morale. Pruning, thinning, and clearing of vegetation are planned, as well as maintenance of trees in poor condition in the park. With these gardening tasks, the aim is to achieve a low-combustibility surface to protect El Moralet against a possible forest fire.

The fire protection action in El Moralet Park, a project of the EDUSI of Benidorm, has a base budget that amounts to 499,976 euros co-financed by European funds (ERDF) and Benidorm City Council. The project, in the bidding phase, responds to the sixth thematic objective of the EDUSI, which seeks to improve urban green areas.

ABOUT THE EDUSI OF BENIDORM:

The Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain 2014-2020, and the Operational Program for Sustainable Growth (POCS) promote the DUSI strategy, of Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development, which Benidorm, as established in the Resolution of May 4, 2018, published in The Official State Gazette (BOE) of the Order of the Third Call HFP/888/2017, has managed to opt for and obtain FEDER aid financing of 10 Million Euros, through its EDUSI BENIDORM strategy.

The EDUSI BENIDORM is made up of a series of thematic, specific, strategic, and operational objectives, encompassed through 13 Lines of Action, whose social, environmental, economic, and urban impact on the city aims to transform a delimited urban area of the city into the to intervene and regenerate comprehensively, to produce a global impact and improvement in the city.
