The new bus stop connects the bus station with the TRAM intermodal and the entire urban network

Benidorm reaffirms its commitment to public transport in its Mobility Week

19 September 2018
Benidorm reafirma su apuesta por el transporte público en su Semana de la Movilidad

On the occasion of the Mobility Week of Benidorm, this morning the ecological vehicles with which the concessionary companies of the city lend their services have been presented. The new bus stop that connects the new TRAM intermodal station next to the bus station has also entered into operation.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, along with Mobility Councilor José Ramón González de Zárate, Street Cleaning, Arturo Cabrillo, and municipal technicians have moved to the parking lot in front of the Bus Station to be interested in the technical developments they incorporate the new ecological vehicles parked there: electric cars that can drive around 350 km with a load and taxis that combine gasoline and gas, capable of travelling up to 1,500 km without refueling.

These new vehicles respond, Toni Pérez recalled, "to the contractual obligations" that every public concession entails. They are vehicles of the companies of maintenance of buildings, ordering of the parking, parks and gardens or management of the integral cycle of the water and of among them "five recently incorporated by Hidraqua", has indicated Perez.

"We are contributing," said the mayor, "to the sustainability of the planet because mobility and sustainability are two issues that must always be united." The mayor has indicated that the "road map of the City" is the PMUS (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan), launched in 2015 and that had "more than 15,000 direct surveys to citizens." Precisely, contribute to the awareness and awareness of the neighbors "is one of the objectives of the Mobility Week".

Another aspect of this week is, the mayor highlighted "awareness and vindication." That is why he recalled the request made to the Generalitat to tranvialize the section that remains in the Marina Baixa. "It is inconceivable - he insisted - that the electrification of the TRAM ends at this halt," pointing to the new intermodal station in Benidorm. Toni Pérez has appealed on behalf of the entire Marina Baixa. The adaptation of the 'trenet' will allow the "connectivity" not only with Alicante, but also "with l'Alfàs de Pi, Altea and with the La Vila hospital". The efforts made by the municipalities "must be accompanied by a determined policy in support of sustainable mobility beyond the urban fabric", concluded the mayor.
