Benidorm City Council is executing 56 new urban ecological gardens in Camí de la Parva, in l' Horta area, which will be completed in May and which are being built by ten students from l'Escola d'Ocupació Et Formem Benidorm II , which has the support of the Valencian Employment and Training Service (LABORA) and the European Social Fund.
The works have been visited this morning within the 'A pie de calle' campaign by Mayor Toni Pérez, who has been accompanied by the Councilor for Employment, Mónica Gómez, the Councilor for Citizenship Participation, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, in addition to the vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario, and some residents of the neighborhood.
The mayor has detailed that the first phase will have 56 plots and has stressed that they are made thanks "to a European grant, one more that the City Council has been able to mobilize for this program."
These 56 urban gardens are located on a plot of 8,500 square meters, in addition to another 74 orchards that already exist on Italia (Els Tolls) and Juan Antonio Baldoví (La Cala) street.
Pérez stressed that these spaces "are places of collaborative coexistence, which encourage participation and also allow the practice of physical and healthy exercise." For this reason, the mayor added "we intend to adapt to the needs of the neighbors."
One of the objectives, Pérez said, is "that this work of creating the urban gardens has a return for the population." In this sense, he has specified that the plot is "a municipal land that we recover to put at the service of the neighbors in the area of l' Horta."
Regarding the urban garden project, Toni Pérez has underlined “the good reception it has had from neighborhood movements” and the fact that “it allows employing ten people with difficulties in finding a job or belonging to vulnerable groups”.
The first plots are already delimited as it has been seen in the visit this morning in which, in fact, the assistants have seen the first lettuces plantations and sprouts of kale, beans, peas or carrots
The area of the urban gardens will be perimeter by a fence and will have an exclusive access door for the owners of the orchards when construction is complete and they have been awarded with their plot.
