Benidorm celebrates the 278th anniversary of its patroness saint, the Mare de Déu del Sofratge
The councilman of Fiestas de Benidorm, Jesús Carrobles, together with the president of the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronals of 2018, Paco Marín, have presented this morning the events that on the occasion of the 278th Anniversary of the Finding of the Mare de Déu de Sofrage will take place in Benidorm from next Thursday, March 1 and throughout the month of March.
The first of the important events will begin on Saturday, March 10, with the flower offering to the Verge del Sofratge that will take place starting at 6:00 p.m., where the fiesta clubs and festive entities are gathered on Paseo de Colón. Paseo de la Carretera, Alameda, Calle Mayor and Plaza de Sant Jaume. Next, the children's queen, Anna Calbo, will recite some verses in honor of the patroness saint and the eldest queen, Fátima Carrobles, will address a few words to the city of Benidorm. Finally, a fireworks castle will be fired at Castelar square, in charge of pyrotechnic Valenciana.
On Sunday, March 11 at 8:00 pm, A.C.R. La Barqueta will give neighbors and visitors their traditional commemorative concert of 'Trobada de la Mare de Deu del Sofratge', Sant Jaume and Santa Anna church.
On Friday, March 16, at 5.30 am the doors of the parish will be opened so that the image of the patroness saint travels through the streets of the old town and the three beaches of the city (Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas), in l'Alba. carried by his parishioners. After the tour, at 7.30 a Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated and the traditional breakfast with chocolate and sweets that will be served to all participants. At noon, it will be time to turn the bells and finally, at 8:00 pm there will be a solemn mass in honor of the patroness.
A whole month of celebrations
The program of events of the 278th anniversary of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge is complemented by the 'Photographic Exhibition of the Alba' that from March 1 to 18, can be seen at the headquarters of the Recreational Cultural Association 'La Barqueta', in Tomás Ortuño street, 62. From March 5 to 16, at Casa del Fester the exhibition of the 'XV Painting and Drawing Contest' of 'La Barqueta' will remain open.
The councilman of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, thanked the "magnificent work done by the Comissió" in the organization of these events because "the finding of" our patroness "is one of those dates" of greater importance that marks the fiestas calendar of Benidorm "and that the neighbors live more intensely.
For his part, the president Paco Marín has been convinced that they will be a great success, especially "if he endures this magnificent time that he is making us," he said.
