PMUS rules out the feasibility of this parking for lack of profitability

The technicians have submitted a draft to elaborate a project for execution and design that is now being studied

The Advisory Council of Urban Scene in Benidorm has supported that the redevelopment of Mediterráneo Avenue does not include an underground parking, in view of the report prepared by the drafting company for the Plan of Sustainable of Urban Mobility (PMUS), which concludes that this parking would not be profitable for "lack of annual average demand" as the needs of places are seasonal. In fact, the profitability would not happen until at least 25 years after its construction. The same report indicates that there are more effective alternatives to increase parking spaces in the area, such as the extension of the City Hall parking and the implementation of parking spaces near Europa. Avenue. This advisory body, formed by municipal technicians and politicians, businessmen and neighborhood representatives, met on Wednesday in a call chaired by the mayor, Toni Pérez, in which were also presented the specifications drawn up by technicians to tender the draft for remodeling of the avenue, the proposed implementation of the first phase of the renovation and plant design. The proposal presented by the Engineering department suggests that this remodeling is not limited only to Mediterráneo Avenue, but also includes the adjacent streets that connect to the beach and are awaiting renewal like Plaza Triangular, El Puente street, Dr. Perez Llorca and Valencia; Bilbao Avenue; and sections of Emilio Romero, Europa, Murcia, Cuenca, Mallorca, Filipinas, Almería and Madrid Avenue. However, "we are aware that the renewal of what it is probably the main artery of our city is a very ambitious and expensive project that should be developed in phases". Hence it has been proposed to draft an implementation of a first phase, comprising the section from El Puente street to Europa Avenue. Pérez recalled that in the budget of 2016 "there is a budget of 200,000 euros for the redevelopment of the Avenue". Now members of the Board together with the technicians should study these specifications. In addition to the remodeling of Mediterráneo Avenue, the Advisory Urban Scene Council also addressed other issues such as accessibility plans and asphalting and improvement of the streets Tomas Ortuño, Orts Llorca and Gerona.
