Maintenance and repair work has been carried out on damaged elements in preparation for Easter and the peak season

Benidorm unveils new public restrooms on Paseo de Colón and refurbishes the other modules that serve the beaches

Benidorm estrena nuevos aseos públicos en el Paseo de Colón y pone a punto el resto de módulos que dan servicio a las playas

Benidorm City Council's Departments of Urban Scene and Beaches have announced the refurbishment of the public restrooms serving the city's beaches, as well as the opening of the new restroom facility on Paseo de Colón, which replaces the previous one.

The Councillor for Urban Scene, Francis Muñoz, explained that the restroom facility on Paseo de Colón was replaced with a new one "because it was beyond repair due to its age, and the decision was made to install a new one." This new facility serves both men and women and is also accessible to people with reduced mobility. It can also be used by people with visual impairments, as Paseo de Colón provides tactile paving to guide them to the restrooms.

Regarding the other public restrooms, maintenance and refurbishment work have been carried out in preparation for Easter and the upcoming peak season. These tasks, as the councillor explained, consisted of “painting and repairing rusted and deteriorated areas, both inside and out, as well as replacing all broken dispensers with new ones.” A thorough inspection of all facilities was also carried out “to address any deficiencies that might be found.”

Muñoz also noted that “maintenance work is performed weekly, and when a problem is detected or reported, we try to repair it the same day or the next.” Maintenance work typically involves replacing flexible hoses, adjusting or replacing broken faucets, replacing flush buttons, changing flush mechanisms, replacing leaking tank connection hoses, replacing toilet mounting screws, replacing door latches, hinges, and handles, repairing bathroom floors, replacing dispensers, and painting walls after graffiti removal, among other things. These improvements have been made to the restrooms located on the western side of Xixo Avenue, as well as those on the eastern side near Murcia Street and Ametlla de Mar Street.

“We are now entering a time of year when the influx of visitors to the beaches and the city will be very high, and we need to present the best possible image to our visitors,” stated Muñoz, who added that “these are maintenance works carried out every year to ensure these public facilities, which are used by many people daily, are in good condition.”
