Minute of silence in Benidorm in memory of the murdered woman in Tenerife

06 April 2017
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm en memoria de la mujer asesinada en Tenerife

19 women and 3 children lost their lives during the year because of the sexist violence

The City of Benidorm has observed a minute of silence today, at 12.00, at the door of the Consistory in memory of the last victim of sexist violence in Spain, a 44-year-old woman allegedly killed by her sentimental partner, a male of 36. The victim appeared calcined on the morning of Monday, April 3, in a house in the municipality of La Laguna.

The acting mayor, Ana Pellicer and the councillor of Igualdad, Angela Llorca, along with colleagues from different municipal groups and public workers have condemned with this minute of symbolic silence this macho murder and any type of violence suffered by women in their day a day. From the Department of Equality has called for a union of citizens to raise awareness and strongly denounce the macho violence and can ultimately be eradicated. In this regard, it has been emphasized that there is a free number of help and advice to battered women, 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill.

With this crime, the number of victims of male-dominated violence in our country is already 19, and another possible case is still being investigated in Redondela (Pontevedra). Three minors have also been killed and eight children have been orphaned in cases of gender-based violence this year.
