Mayor Toni Pérez receives the new director of Benidorm Unión Musical
Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, received this Tuesday the recently elected director of the symphonic band of Unión Musical de Benidorm, Rafa Gómez Parra from Benidorm. The reception took place in the Mayor's office and the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, also participated; the president of Unión Musical, Mari Carmen García; and other members of the board of directors of this entity.
Musically trained at José Pérez Barceló Professional Conservatory of Music in Benidorm, Rafa Gómez Parra is a teacher of harmony, musical analysis, and fundamentals of composition, as well as a violinist. His compositional facet is broad and he stands out for works for orchestra, pasodobles, or procession marches.
He is also a musician rooted in Unión Musical, in which until now he had been in charge of the Youth Band and the String Orchestra. His election as director of the symphonic band occurred within an unprecedented democratic process, which began a year ago and in which more than 70 musicians have participated, evaluating criteria related to musical ability, artistic project, ability leadership, and social skills of the three candidates.
Mayor Toni Pérez wished Rafa Gómez Parra “every possible success” in his new stage at the head of the symphonic band and has reaffirmed the “firm commitment” of Benidorm City Council to “continue supporting all entities that promote culture and music in our municipality”, especially in the case of an institution like Unión Musical, which between 2025 and 2026 will celebrate the centenary of its foundation.
