Benidorm once again increases aid to music schools and band students to exceed 44,000 euros

12 September 2023
Benidorm aumenta de nuevo las ayudas a las escuelas de música y educandos de las bandas hasta superar los 44.000 euros

Benidorm City Council has once again increased aid to music schools and students of the city's three musical entities to exceed 44,000 euros, as reported today by the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez. Thus, the Local Government Board (JGL) has approved the provisional resolution of this call for aid with which "since 2016 the Department of Culture has supported the educational, pedagogical and cultural work carried out by the three bands of Benidorm in the formation of future musicians and in the promotion of this artistic discipline.”

Pérez explained that, after evaluating the applications of each entity, the technical commission in charge of this aid has decided to grant Unión Musical de Benidorm and  Societat Musical La Nova the maximum eligible amount, 15,000 euros; while the Societat Musical l'Illa will receive 14,100 euros.

The mayor indicated that "for the call for this exercise we increased the amount reserved for this aid to 45,000 euros, 9,000 euros more than the previous year, reinforcing the City Council's support for the musical and cultural training of children and youth of Benidorm”.

At this point, Pérez highlighted that "in parallel with the increase in the financial resources that the City Council allocates to this aid, the number of students in these schools has also grown in recent years, to exceed 700 between the three bands.” These numbers “certify the good health that musical education in Benidorm enjoys now and for the future, as well as the interest that music arouses in Benidorm, where we have a long history, three musical entities and a Professional Conservatory of Music".

Pérez recalled that "the volume of students is one of the objective criteria that is taken into account when setting the amount of aid to each entity, also valuing the staff of the band itself and the annual calculation of expenses linked to the school".

Once again, the Councilor for Culture highlighted that "the musical societies of Benidorm are a fundamental pillar in the promotion and dissemination of the city's culture." Likewise, he valued "their involvement and willingness to participate in the cultural, festive and institutional events that are celebrated throughout the year", and their "increasing commitment to promoting their initiatives".”
