Historical Heritage signposts the routes to the Tossal of La Cala and Torre de les Caletes
The Department of Historic Patrimony has signaled the routes to reach the two main monuments and archaeological remains that can be visited in Benidorm: Tossal de La Cala and Torre de les Caletes. The councilor of the area, Ana Pellicer, has emphasized that Torre de les Caletes, watchtower of the 16th century, is classified as a Property of Cultural Interest (BIC); while El Tossal is in process of obtaining this statement.
The route of El Tossal "leaves from Villajoyosa avenue and it indicates the access by car until the highest viewpoint of the site". Torre de les Caletes route "begins in Madrid avenue and arrives until the entrance to the natural park of Serra Gelada," in which the monument is located.
The placement of this sign was made a few days ago with the aim of facilitating the visit to both monuments, so that tourists visiting Benidorm during the next Easter will be able to reach these remains in a simpler way, knowing part of the historical heritage of the city.
Pellicer recalled that next July "we will host the fifth campaign of excavations in El Tossal, as well as the first steps of the musealization of the site." The previous campaigns have made it possible to verify that the site corresponds to a Roman "castellum" of the republican period active during the sertorianas wars of century I before Christ. At the plenary session last Monday, the corporation unanimously agreed to "relaunch the statement of El Tossal as BIC."
