The exhibition organized by Cultura has been designed by Lluis Soler, who on November 19 will present the book ‘García, procurador de Thous a Sella’
An exhibition remembers the leading figure of Juan Thous, a celebrity in Benidorm and the region in the second half of the 19th century
From today until November 19, l’Espai d’Art of Benidorm City Council will host the exhibition ‘Thous, sigular perdonage and benefactor of Benidorm and region. Segle XIX ', an exhibition about this celebrity in the evolution of the city and the rest of the Marina Baixa.
The exhibition, organized by the Department of Culture directed by Jaime Jesús Pérez, has been designed by Professor Lluis Soler, as a prelude to the presentation of the book ‘García, procurador de Thous a Sella’. A book, explained the councillor of Culture, in which Lluis Soler collects “anecdotes and experiences that surrounded the leading figure of Juan Thous since his childhood, told by his ancestors and people linked to this person, who served as an attorney of Thous in Sella, Josep García.
"The exhibition affects various aspects of the life of the one who was representative in Madrid of the interests of Benidorm and the rest of the region, such as his relationship with personalities of the time, his career as a building contractor, his altruism during the episode of cholera that shook the town of Sella in 1885, and his house in our city: the Lliriets estate ”.
To illustrate these passages, photographs from various periods and newspaper clippings from the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th have been compiled, such as 'La Correspondencia de España', 'La Libertad', 'Eco de la Provincia' or 'El Serpis' in which allusion is made to Thous in his capacity as a deputy in the Parliament or to events surrounding his figure.
The exhibition can be visited until November 19, coinciding with the presentation of the book ‘García, procurador de Thous a Sella’, which will take place in the Assembly Hall of the City Hall at 7:00 p.m.
