It is one of the competitions with the highest participation of children in the Valencian Community. One hundred children are awarded prizes
The deadline for participating in La Barqueta School Drawing Competition is now open
The Councillor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, presented this morning, together with the president of La Barqueta, Francisco Llorens (Paco Rosera) and the member of the organisation, Jaume Lloret, the twenty-second edition of La Barqueta School Drawing Competition.
The competition “consolidated within the educational, cultural and festive calendar of Benidorm” is aimed at “primary school students – said Pérez – each one will be able to present their creation in public or private schools in Benidorm and it will be the centre that will choose the ten best. These, with those of the rest of the schools, will participate in the competition”.
Jaime Jesús Pérez has pointed out that the main reason for the competition is “the commemoration of the anniversary of the discovery”, on March 16, 1740, of the image “of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge, patron saint of the city”, in which La Barqueta “plays a fundamental role” and “part of it” is this call in which “all educational and school centres participate”.
The Councilor for Culture has announced that the exhibition with the finalist works “can be visited from March 3 to 15 in the Exhibition Hall of Casa del Fester”. The jury will evaluate the creations presented and award the best”, although around a hundred prizes will be distributed. La Barqueta is “the competition with the most participation in the Valencian Community” and “one of the most” in all of Spain. The awards ceremony will take place on March 12 in the Town Hall's assembly hall.

For his part, Francisco Llorens recalled that “it's been 22 years now. At the beginning nobody gave us a chance”, and in the end, it was “a reality based on the discovery of our patron saint, the Virgin of Sofratge.
Jaume Lloret specified that “three awards, four-second prizes and trophies will be awarded by the Town Hall. Likewise, Culture department “will award 300 euros to the three schools with the greatest participation”.
