The work will begin next week with the planting of rosemary, lavender, olivilla and lantana specimens

Benidorm will invest 48,000 euros in the renovation of the landscaping on Paseo de Poniente

04 June 2024
Benidorm invertirá 48.000 euros en la renovación de la jardinería del Paseo de Poniente

Next week, the landscape restoration work on Paseo de Poniente area will begin, essentially renovating and replacing landscaping that will involve an investment of 48,336.48 euros. The intervention is motivated by the continued use of the interior of the promenade gardens as a pedestrian crossing.

The report prepared to undertake the work indicates that it is necessary to carry out a series of tasks "to condition the areas that in recent years have suffered acts of vandalism" among which are the breaking of pipes due to dog or squirrel bites or the presence of large amount of sand from the beach on the gardens” because many bathers wash their feet in the garden areas and the constant traffic of pedestrians “who repeatedly pass over the plants.”

This morning, Mayor Toni Pérez visited the main points where the action will take place, accompanied by the councilors of Parks and Gardens and Citizenship Participation, José Ramón González de Zárate and Ana Pellicer respectively, and by a group of neighbors and neighborhood representatives of Poniente in a new day of the 'A pie de calle' campaign.

Pérez has pointed out the need to "make this investment to restore the area and change many units of various plants to recover and increase the beauty of the Paseo de Poniente by introducing a greater number of plant elements."

Likewise, due to the passage of time, it has also become necessary to remove polyethene pipes with drippers and replace them with other 16-millimetre self-compensating, self-cleaning and heat-welded pipes that have higher quality and better support the flow and pressure of irrigation water.

Likewise, decorative artificial grass with a height of 25 millimeters will be installed on a concrete surface, by manually spreading rolls glued with 25 centimeters wide tapes, covered with silica sand.”

As for the plant specimens, the species that will be used in this restoration will be 3,000 units of rosemary (rosemary postrata), 500 units of olivilla (teucrium fructicans), 2,500 units of lantana (lantana sellowiana) and 80 units of Chinese orange blossom (Phytosporum tobira) and lavender specimens.

Toni Pérez has stressed that this garden area "is one of the most visited by the citizens of Benidorm and with the passage of time it becomes necessary to intervene in it since it is a reference." The mayor has indicated that "it is essential to keep the area in perfect condition, since the wear and tear that occurs is very high due to the passage of personnel." In addition, he has advanced that with the arrangements that will be carried out in the area “the use of this landscaped road as a pedestrian crossing will be mitigated since one of the objectives is for pedestrians to cross the road through the zebra crossings and the enabled crossings instead of crossing areas with plant elements.”
