The City Council will approve in the next plenary session the Forest Management Technical Plan that regulates the uses and actions of conservation and environmental protection for the next decade
Benidorm will consolidate the conservation and environmental protection of El Moralet
Within the framework of the European Mobility Week, Benidorm has given the green light to the El Moralet Forest Management Technical Plan, which will regulate the uses and necessary infrastructures according to current legislation. This management plan for El Moralet will be taken to the next plenary session for final approval. The recovery of the environment of El Moralet, a green lung of more than 102 hectares, is one of the most important actions of the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy of Benidorm.
"In the European Mobility Week, we present the Forest Management Plan of El Moralet that will allow us to continue improving and protecting this great green lung recovered through the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy of Benidorm," explained the mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez at the event held at El Moralet. “With the Forest Management Technical Plan, we plan the conservation of El Moralet with actions such as the installation of fire-fighting surveillance cameras that will work with solar energy and will be connected to the Benidorm fire control center and the creation of a firebreak area that will delimit the park as a fire prevention measure.”
The new forest management plan for El Moralet, which includes the uses, infrastructures and measures for the protection and conservation of the environment, has been approved by the engineering department and will be taken to plenary session for final approval in the coming weeks.
The new forest management plan for El Moralet proposes protection and conservation actions such as the creation of a firebreak on the perimeter of the mountain, the extension of existing signage, the installation of fire-fighting surveillance cameras and the installation of a fourth recreational area next to to the urbanizations of the western area. “In the first phase of the actions to improve the environment and public use, we acted on some 103 hectares of El Moralet, restoring trails, building recreational areas and improving the resilience of the environment to climate change, including the installation of hydrants to put out fires thanks to the collaboration with the Marina Baixa Firefighters Consortium,” explained Toni Pérez. "Now we propose to extend the conservation of the area with pruning and thinning works to reduce the risk of fires, an environmental restoration project and new paths to consolidate the environmental protection of El Moralet."
The report approved by the consistory also proposes the inclusion of El Moralet in the catalog of Forests of Public Utility of the Generalitat Valenciana and its declaration as a Municipal Natural Area, or including the old route of the "trenet" as a local trail of the Sports Federation of Mountain of the Valencian Community. Some of the other measures included are terrace recovery plans to prevent soil erosion and land clearing plans. The forest management plan proposes an investment of €1,099,094.79 in El Moralet over the next decade.
"We continue to value El Moralet, protecting this park, which is already Benidorm's natural heritage, consolidating fire-fighting safety measures to ensure its protection in the years to come," declared Mayor Toni Pérez. “With more than a million square meters, El Moralet is already a large green space that connects the urban fabric, a symbol of the green Benidorm that we have been tracing in recent years.”
"The environmental improvement and public use of El Moralet is an example of the commitment to sustainable, comfortable, healthy and accessible mobility that we promote from Benidorm," declared Mayor Pérez, adding "that sustainable mobility is a central axis of the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy of Benidorm, as also demonstrated by the improvements in accessibility that we are undertaking in neighbourhoods such as Foietes or Els Tolls.”
The environmental and public use improvement of El Moralet, completed last July, is one of the great emblematic works of the Strategy for Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development of Benidorm. The action responds to the sixth Thematic Objective of the EDUSI, which seeks to improve urban areas, green areas and depressed spaces.
