Thanks to the improvements obtained by the City Council in the tender, the final investment is close to 2.2 million euros

Benidorm will carry out more than 25 asphalting and improvement of accessibility actions in the next two months

04 December 2020
Benidorm realitzarà més de 25 actuacions d'asfaltat i millora de l'accessibilitat en els pròxims dos mesos...

Over the next two months, Benidorm City Council will carry out "more than 25 asphalting and improving accessibility actions, reaching practically all neighborhoods and reaching 40 streets", as reported today by the Councilor for Public Space , José Ramón González de Zárate, who has stressed that this investment "does not reduce municipal resources to serve families and the productive fabric, which are the priority of this government."

All these actions are included in the "Improvement of Road Safety and Accessibility 2020" project, valued at 1.7 million euros. However, the real investment to be made is approximately 2.2 million euros, "thanks to the improvement of more than 28% obtained by the City Council in the bidding process" and assumed by the winning company, Mediterránea de Obras y Asfaltos SL.

De Zárate pointed out that “participation has been the basic principle of this project”, since “five meetings and encounters have been held with the Neighborhood Council and the neighborhood associations of each of the neighborhoods in which it is going to act "; some meetings that have served to outline part of the works and improvements and to report on the details and scope of the works.

The councillor has asked for "apologies" and "patience" for "traffic problems" that these actions may entail, with "cuts that may be three or four days." After noting that the first works have already started this week, De Zárate has clarified that "we are going to work simultaneously at various points, with at least four teams a day, in order to speed up the work as much as possible and reduce inconvenience."

At this point, it has influenced that "now is the ideal time" to carry out all these works, since the degree of occupation of the city is lower and a large part of the hotel establishments in the areas of action are closed. This is the case of the accommodations on Los Almendros Avenue, where the machines will start working next week, cutting off the section between Los Limones and Elche Park to traffic. This cut will not affect, however, “access to the municipal market and its public parking, whose access will be duly signposted. Also next week works will be performed on Venus Street, which will also be closed to road traffic.

The head of Public Space has reported that "once we complete all the actions provided for in this contract, in just two years we will have renewed 80% asphalt throughout Benidorm."

Distribution of actions in neighborhoods

In the Levante area, the roadway of a 500-meter stretch of Lepanto Street, from Esperanto to Cuenca, will be renewed. In addition, a third lane is created next to the roundabout that connects Comunidad Europea and Europa avenues for vehicles that want to join the Valencian Community from the latter.

The following actions are planned in Rincón de Loix area, some already underway:

In La Huerta, El Camí de La Lloma has already been paved. Shortly, and taking advantage of the contract improvements, it will act in two other ways, still under technical study.

In addition, speed bumps will be generated in the following streets and avenues: Paris, Juan Pablo II, Pla de Marc, Denia and Camí de La Barrina. In addition, a new zebra crossing is generated in Severo Ochoa avenue in the proximity of the roundabout with Admirall Bernat de Sarrià Avenue.
