Benidorm observes a minute of silence for the woman murdered on Wednesday in Pontevedra

04 December 2020
Benidorm guarda un minut de silenci per la dona assassinada el dimecres a Pontevedra...

Today at noon a minute of silence has been observed in front of the main door of Benidorm City Council, in solidarity with the 59-year-old woman, murdered on Wednesday in the parish of Mañufe, in the municipality of Gondomar (Pontevedra), supposedly at the hands of her husband.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led the silent rally where members of the three political groups with municipal representation, municipal staff and neighbors have participated. So far this year, sexist violence has killed 42 women and left 23 orphans. Since 2003, the year in which official statistics began in Spain, 1,075 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners.

From the Department of Equality it is recalled that the City Council has staff specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it insists that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill - although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile call log - which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week , 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
