Benidorm resumes work on the second phase of the renovation of the festoon lights on Paseo de Levante after the summer season

With the high season over, Benidorm City Council has resumed work on the second phase of the hanging festoon lights renovation on Paseo de Levante, which runs from Avenida de Europa to Calle Metge Miguel Martorell. The Councillor for Public Works, Francis Muñoz, recalled that "in mid-June, it was decided to suspend the work so that beach and promenade users would not have to coexist with the work at a time of peak traffic in the area, thus also ensuring the safety of pedestrians."
"Initially," he explained, "the plan was to resume work on September 1st, although in view of the occupancy levels Benidorm recorded at the beginning of the month, it was decided to postpone the resumption until this week." From this moment on, "the work will coexist with regular activity on the promenade and beach, while ensuring minimal disruption."
This second phase of the overhead line represents an investment of €854,885.07 and is part of the Benidorm Visión 360 Sustainable Tourism Destination Plan (PSTD), which is also included in the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, financed with funds from the European Union-NextGenerationEU. It continues the renovation work carried out by the City Council from El Torrejó to Avenida Europa, which involved an investment of €1,972,119.41 and a reduction in energy output of over 33%.
In addition to the significant energy savings, this project involves "updating the iconic lighting on our front line, which after three decades in service required an effort to continue being technologically cutting-edge."
Muñoz reported that "once we complete the ongoing work, which is expected to happen before Easter, we will have renewed 65% of the catenary along the entire promenade, with the remaining 35% being completed in a third and final phase, the project of which is currently being finalised by technicians."
