Facing summer, the passage of urban transport will be enabled from this point to La Hispanidad square
Benidorm reorders Doctor Fleming Square
The Department of Public Space has proceeded to reorder Doctor Fleming square, in which the motorcycle parking lot has been eliminated to “clear this emblematic point” of Benidorm, where the iconic 2-meter anchor is located that was ceded to the City Council in 1993 by the Chief Admiral of the Mediterranean Maritime Zone. This has been explained by the mayor of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate, who has advanced that in the coming days it is planned to install planters in the square to "give more enhancement" to this enclave, which also gives access to the new refurbishment of La Hispanidad square.
De Zárate pointed out that this action "complements" the renovation not only of Doctor Fleming "but also of the entire environment", since in the last year and a half Herrerías and Puente streets have been remodeled, as well as the juction of l'Aigüera avenue with Plaza SSMM Reyes de España, which has been configured as a “preferably pedestrian space”.
The mayor has highlighted that "in the place occupied by Doctor Fleming motorcycle parking it has been marked as a lane reserved for public buses and bicycles, which will begin to operate in the summer", allowing "urban public transport to reach de La Hispanidad square and from there to the central stop located on Esperanto street ”. In this way, "we will improve the connectivity of collective urban transport."
Finally, he clarified that the abolition of the parking lot in Doctor Fleming square "has not meant a reduction in parking spaces for motorcycles", since "approximately 50 spaces have been created at a short distance, at the exit of the public parking in l'Aigüera ”.
