The meeting of the Beach Management Body confirms that the objectives set in the Sustainability Plan last year have been met
Benidorm reaffirms its commitment to beach sustainability with twelve new actions in 2025

Benidorm City Council has expressed its willingness to continue its commitment to the sustainability of beaches and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in 2025. This was confirmed during the meeting of the Beach Management Body held today.
At this meeting, chaired by Mayor Toni Pérez, information was provided on the Sustainability Plan and the actions that will be carried out this year, in which work will be done with SDG numbers 3, 4, 10, 11 and 14.
Thus, regarding SDG 3 (Health and Wellbeing), training will be provided on communication and emotional management to improve customer service and reduce conflicts. Regarding SDG 4 (Quality Education), environmental awareness actions will continue to be established on the beaches. Likewise, regarding SDG 10 (Reduction of inequalities), accessible areas will be improved for new facilities and the accessible beach point and the acquisition of a crane for accessible beaches in Levante and new XXL amphibious chairs to expand the dimensions are planned.
However, one of the main focuses of attention will be on SDG 11 (Sustainable cities), in which the City Council has expressed its desire to improve beach management while maintaining the commitment to local sustainability with all certifications, in addition to other activities to reduce consumption and guarantee sustainable modalities. In total, there will be twelve actions that will endorse this municipal commitment.
Benidorm will also undertake actions related to SDG 14 (Life below water) through the implementation of the project 'Life Pro Posidonia in Sierra Helada', the annual cleaning of seabeds, promoting a campaign to not feed fish and maintaining the agreement with the Oceanogràfic for the introduction of stranded animals.
The results of the audits carried out on the beaches during July last year were also addressed at the meeting of the Beach Management Body. The results of all of them were satisfactory and, therefore, all the standards and certifications were renewed.
Finally, about the degree of compliance with the 2024 Sustainability Plan, the conclusion is that practically all the planned actions have been carried out, based fundamentally on SDGs 3 (Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 11 (Sustainable Cities), 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption) and 13 (Climate Action).
Other actions carried out last year included the declaration of the accessible areas of Elche, Levante and Poniente Parks as ‘Smoke-Free Zones’, ‘Earth Hour’, the Ecovidrio campaign ‘Reuse and recycle with all five senses’, talks on Posidonia on accessible beaches, tree planting, a campaign with a guide to identifying jellyfish, information screens with a video on Posidonia and the water in Lavapiés, awareness-raising actions to encourage recycling, vertical cleaning of the cliffs in the coves, etc.
