Benidorm joins the 20th anniversary of Serra Gelada Natural Park

Benidorm City Council today celebrated the 20th anniversary of the declaration of the Serra Gelada Natural Park, the first maritime-terrestrial park in the Valencian Community, which also extends to the municipalities of Alfàs del Pi and Altea. The celebration, organised by the Regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory, was held this afternoon at the Carabineros de Alfàs del Pi Environmental Education Centre (CEA). The event was attended by the Director General of the Natural and Animal Environment, Luis Gomis; the director of the natural park, Ángel Enguix; the Benidorm Councillor for the Environment, Mónica Gómez; the Mayor of Alfàs del Pi, Vicente Arques; and the Altea Councillor for the Environment, José Orozco.
During her speech, Mónica Gómez reaffirmed Benidorm's commitment to preserving and enhancing the Natural Park through various initiatives linked to its natural and historical heritage. Among these initiatives, Gómez highlighted the regeneration of the Racó de l'Infern quarry, which also emerged from a public-private partnership, and the restoration of the Les Caletes tower.
The councillor emphasised the benefits of environmental awareness and education initiatives and that the Serra Gelada mountain range is one of the pillars of Benidorm's "green and blue" model, linked to "sustainable and regenerative tourism."
The three municipalities expressed their commitment to collaborate in the management aimed at preserving the park as a symbol of common identity and a strategic resource for the region.
