Benidorm installs its first egalitarian traffic lights coinciding with the Pride Week
The colors of the rainbow are also shown at the confluence of the promenade of Levante with Europa avenue
Technical staff of the Department of Mobility are installing the new lenses at the pedestrian traffic lights in the lower part of Ruzafa street and at the intersection of Mediterráneo Avenue and Hispanidad square to transform them into 'egalitarian traffic lights'. The municipal workers have also painted with the colors of the rainbow flag, representative of the LGBT movement, the section that links the promenade of Levante with Europa avenue. These initiatives, together with the raising of the flag on the main balcony of Benidorm Town Hall are the prelude of Benidorm Pride week that starts today.
Traditional pictograms of pedestrian traffic lights have been replaced by others representing couples joined by a heart. This afternoon, after their installation, they called the attention of neighbors and tourists so much that many of them have taken snapshots with the cameras of their smartphones. From the Department it is announced that over time there will be more of these traffic lights and will be exchanging with the traditional ones in the different pedestrian crossings of the city.
