The intervention has had an investment of more than one million euros
Benidorm completes the improvement of accessibility and pedestrian mobility in Marina Alta, Baixa, Puerto Rico, Villajoyosa and Aigües streets
Benidorm City Council has already completed the renovation works on the drinking water pipes and the improvement of the pavement in Marina Alta, Marina Baixa, Puerto Rico, Aigües streets, and Villajoyosa avenue in the Poniente area, some actions, valued at more than one million euros, which have made possible a comprehensive improvement of mobility and pedestrian accessibility, in addition to the modernization of all water, drinking, sewage and rainwater services, trees, lighting and street furniture
The objective of the intervention, as specified by the mayor Toni Pérez, was “to promote pedestrian mobility with safe, accessible and comfortable transit, as well as an aesthetic renewal that follows a very clear city strategy; make our streets look their best.” The mayor visited the area today accompanied by the Councilor for Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, and various members of the government team.
In Marina Alta street, the old polyethylene drinking water pipe has been renovated, which has been replaced by another cast iron one, 100 millimeters in diameter and 373 meters long, which solves the problems of pressure and water losses suffered by the neighbors in the area.
At the same time that this action has been undertaken, the opportunity has been taken to install a new pipe that will supply the area with reclaimed water to be used for watering gardens and street cleaning. “It is the first neighborhood that has a regenerated water network, coming from the treatment plant, which allows water to be supplied from the road itself for cleaning sidewalks, watering gardens, and in the future supplying urbanizations. With this we contribute to environmental sustainability, beyond the social and economic, which is no less important" stated the mayor, who wanted to "value this great effort".
Two fire hydrants have also been installed in accordance with current legislation and conduits for municipal services "replacing the pavement of the entire sidewalk on the right according to the direction of traffic" Pérez specified. An action that has led to the improvement of accessibility and signage.
In Marina Baixa, renovation works have been carried out on the drinking water infrastructure and the rainwater and wastewater networks. At this point, the signaling and furniture have led to integrating solutions that have redimensioned the sidewalks themselves and the urban furniture and the necessary civil works have been prepared for the future installation of public lighting that is now located on private land.
The work has been carried out in coordination with that of Marina Alta since both roads represent important roads in the neighborhood as they lead to facilities such as the CDT, the Health Center, the schools of La Cala and El Murtal, and a public parking lot.
On Puerto Rico street, for its part, a secondary rainwater collector has been created that will connect with the general that serves the area. Added to this is the creation of a roundabout at the confluence with Avenida Villajoyosa "which allows a better connection with existing administrative services," Pérez pointed out.
The new roundabout also entails the ordering and completion of the new pedestrian itineraries, so that Villajoyosa avenue is provided with a sidewalk, which until now has only been painted on the pavement. A new sidewalk has also been created on Aigües street since the previous one did not comply with accessibility regulations.
During the visit, the mayor emphasized that with this type of intervention "we continue to deepen our commitment to improving the city's hydraulic infrastructures, as we have been doing for years, but at the same time we are gaining in accessibility, urban scene and mobility of people".
These actions are complemented by the renewal of lighting under the IDAE program which has been anticipated this year and will make "pedestrian traffic safer, even to the beach."
