Benidorm muestra su repulsa por los últimos crímenes machistas ocurridos en Toledo y Bilbao, que sitúan en 48 las mujeres asesinadas en 2022

Benidorm City Council has convened a silent rally this afternoon at Plaza de SS.MM Los Reyes de España to condemn the latest confirmed crimes of sexist violence in Escalona (Toledo) and Bilbao. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, led this rally in which the two victims were remembered.

The first of the two murders took place in San Francisco neighborhood of Bilbao on Tuesday, December 27, when the 45-year-old woman, Rebeca, was stabbed by her partner, who had a long history of arrests for violence gender.

The second crime occurred on Wednesday. A 34-year-old woman, who was expecting a baby, was murdered in Escalona (Toledo) by her ex-partner, a 52-year-old man who was later arrested by the Civil Guard.

Since the beginning of this year, 2022, 48 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners, and 1,181 since 2003, the year in which the data on women murdered by sexist violence began to be counted.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
