Benidorm commemorates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with five days of activities
Benidorm City Council has organized about a dozen activities to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated on November 25. The Department of Equality, with the support of other municipal areas and entities, a program of events has been designed that will last from Monday, the 21st, until Friday, and with which "we want to give visibility and raise awareness to the entire society about this reality suffered by thousands of women in our country and that so far this year has resulted in 38 fatalities”, as explained by the mayor of the department, Ángela Zaragozí.
Therefore, "we have opted for different activities to try to reach all segments of the population, since awareness must reach the population of all ages, starting with the youngest". “In fact, it is precisely the young population that is in charge of opening the program next Monday, at noon, with the inauguration of the exhibition of posters against gender-based violence made by students of the 2nd Artistic Baccalaureate of IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch secondary school, and which will be exhibited at the City Hall's Espai d'Art”.
Tuesday, November 22, will also be a premiere day, in this case, "Punto Violeta of the Municipal Library, which will be permanent, and will also contain a bibliography related to this subject" and users will be able to consult from 11:00 a.m.
On Wednesday, starting at 7:00 p.m., the students of the self-defense courses organized by the Department of Equality and taught by Ragel Ivanov Rangelov will offer an exhibition in the Assembly Hall of the City Hall. On Thursday 24 the theater and the cinema will be the protagonists, with the performance of the play 'No to gender violence' by the Theater 2000 group at 5:30 p.m. in 'La Torreta' social center; and with the screening of a selection of short films from the four editions of the 'Documóvil' project, written, directed and recorded by students of Benidorm Secondary Schools. This exhibition of short films is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the City Hall.
Already on Friday, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the activity will begin at 10:30 am in the Assembly Hall of La Casa del Fester, with the talk-colloquium 'Gender violence: definition, origin and consequences ', addressed to associations and people interested in this matter and which will be carried out by José Vicente Vizcaya, promoter of the Equality department in Benidorm.
Later, between 11:00 and 12:00, the students of the IES of the city will carry out a 'Human Chain' and will proceed to read a manifesto against gender violence. Then, at noon, the banner commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women will be placed on the facade of the City Hall. The programming will close with a protest march organized by the Association of Housewives of Benidorm that will take place from 6:00 p.m. at Plaza SSMM Reyes de España.
Zaragozí has encouraged the population "to participate in these activities, thus contributing to the final objectives of this program, which is to make the population aware of this social scourge and to publicize, once again, the resources that the Department of Equality has at the disposal of the population that may suffer this type of violence”.
