Benidorm commemorates the Valencian Lletres Day
Fifty students from the Fifth and Sixth grades of CEIP Bautista Lledó have participated today, at Hort de Colón, in the collective reading of the 'Diccionari per ociosos', by Joan Fuster, on the occasion of the celebration of the Lletres Valencianes Day which is commemorated on November 20.
The act, organized by the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage, started at 10:00 in the morning, and have participated, in addition to the students of the Infant and Primary school, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the councilor of the department, Ana Pellicer; and Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, along with other members of the corporation.
Ana Pellicer has recalled that El Dia de les Lletres Valencianes "is celebrated on November 20 because it was precisely on that day in 1490 when the first edition of the masterpiece of Valencian literature, El Tirant lo Blanch, by Joanot Martorell" was published. . "Book considered - explained the councilor - as one of the most important in universal literature and summit of the Valencian Golden Age'".
The choice of a work by Joan Fuster i Ortells this year responds to the fact that in 2022 the centenary of the birth of the essayist and author from Sueca (Ribera Baixa) is celebrated and "with the celebration of 'Any Fuster' in the Valencian territory - Pellicer has abounded- promoted by the Generalitat, in which, among others, institutions, the Corts Valencianes, the Ministry of Culture, the Consell Valencià de Cultura, the Valencian Academy of Language, or the universities of the Valencian Community collaborate.
With regard to the work chosen this year for public reading, the 'Dictionary for idlers', Ana Pellicer has added that it is “an author's dictionary that collects many of the articles published by Fuster in the early sixties of the last century”. In it, we can discover "the critical essayist Fuster and master of the aphorism" who "has so influenced" Valencian society and literature in recent decades.
