Benidorm and SEGITTUR will develop the pilot project of the Smart Tourism System

SEGITTUR will work with the City of Benidorm to develop a pilot project of the Smart Tourism System (SIT) with the aim of promoting the use of new data sources, their integration with existing ones and improving current knowledge on the evolution of the main tourist magnitudes of the destination.

The action is part of a pilot initiative of the Secretary of State for Tourism, similar to others that will be launched throughout 2018 in different Spanish destinations, to promote the use of new digital technologies among tourism managers.

This initiative has materialized after the Valencian Tourism Agency suggested to the Secretary of State for Tourism the incorporation of Benidorm as one of the pilot destinations, given the work that this destination has been carrying out for some time in collaboration with Invattur.

The objective of this project is to have a technological platform model for analyzing data linked to tourism that allows the reuse of existing developments and ensures comparability between the results obtained.

The pilot of the SIT that will be implemented in Benidorm will also offer the possibility of previously carrying out a diagnostic report on the destination as an integral part of its conversion process into Intelligent Tourist Destination, of which the SIT must necessarily act in the future as the center of knowledge and analysis at the service of decision making of the destination manager.

The SIT in its pilot version will allow to integrate some data and sources of information of different nature at a basic level on a simple and scalable visualization platform in the future.

Among the destinations with which the Ministry of Tourism, is working in Spain to implement a SIT, with different scope and levels of development planned, we can mention Badajoz, Almeria, the Community of Madrid, León or the Monfragüe National Park .
