Benidorm activates EDUSI Anti-Fraud Committee

23 February 2021
Benidorm activa el Comité Antifrau de l'EDUSI...

Benidorm City Council has activated the Anti-Fraud Committee linked to the Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI), a body created last August and chaired by the second deputy mayor and councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate. The Chairman of the Committee explained that “among the obligations assumed by the City Council for the execution of EDUSI is to establish procedures that guarantee the adoption of effective and proportionate anti-fraud measures”; a commitment that "is reflected in the creation and activation of this body, also known as Fraud Risk Assessment Committee".

Precisely in the first meeting held today, “an initial evaluation has been carried out” and “the risks and controls provided for in the tool provided by the Management Authority of the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain (POPE) 2014-2020 have been analyzed in relation to EDUSI 'Selection and Execution of Operations'.

De Zárate has indicated that “in this meeting we have addressed the procedures already in place by the City Council for the execution of EDUSI; an ambitious city project that has received a grant of 10 million euros from European funds, and which includes actions to increase the quality of life of citizens through the improvement of access to information technologies (ICT), reduction of CO2 emissions, protection of the environment and the fight against inequality and poverty through inclusion policies ”.

In this first meeting, “the Committee has dealt with the three projects linked to EDUSI that have already begun to be processed, such as the construction of a youth hostel, a camping area and an interpretation center; the rehabilitation of the bullring and the creation of new cultural and social spaces in its surroundings; or improving accessibility in different parts of the city ”.

In addition to the second deputy mayor, this Committee is made up of the general secretary, the City Council, the auditor, the treasurer, the heads of the Engineering department, the head of Contracting and the technical manager of the EDUSI Management Unit.
