This Thursday, Benidorm City Council began the assembly of two monumental sculptures that will complete the redevelopment of the upper part of Beniardà Avenue, in the section that runs over the new tunnel built to bury road traffic and save the passage to TRAM level. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has visited the works accompanied by other members of the municipal executive, staff from the Generalitat Valenciana Railways, and the author of the two sculptural works, the sculptor Toni Marí, a native of Xàbia.

The mayor highlighted that the placement of both sculptures "provides added value to a work that has completely transformed and enriched this entire environment", where until very recently "the train tracks and road traffic converged, generating frequent traffic delays and inconvenience to neighbors” and where now “green spaces have been generated and pedestrian traffic has been favored for the enjoyment of citizens.”

The two sculptures are made of iron, seven and six meters high, and weigh more than a ton. They represent two human figures, a man and a woman, each focused on a direction to receive or say goodbye to people who use this route to enter or leave the city. In both cases, they have their hands raised and hold a significant drop of water above their heads, in what is intended to be a tribute from Benidorm to this element, one of the “most precious and most valued” assets for the municipality, as highlighted. Toni Perez.

Regarding the theme of the work, the mayor stated that “it could not be any other way. We are on Beniardà Avenue, a few meters from the water treatment plant from which the water we drink in our municipality is distributed, and in front of the beginning of José Ramón García Antón Avenue. “Undoubtedly,” he added, “water had to be the central axis.”
