Social Welfare grants 100% of the attendance, dining room included, to around a hundred minors; while Education department finances the rest of the students part of the activity
The AMPA Summer School adds 178 students in July and 135 in August
The Summer School organized by the Local Association of AMPAS, with the collaboration of the Department of Education and Social Welfare and that this year is being developed in CEIP Vasco Núñez de Balboa, has had 178 students during the month of July, while that for this August there are 135 enrolled. This has been reported today by the councillor of Education, Maite Moreno, who explained that “these figures confirm that this initiative facilitates conciliation for many families in Benidorm, which in this Summer School has a service of quality in which their sons and daughters between 3 and 14 years old learn, have fun and interact with other minors through a complete program of activities ”.
Moreno, who last week visited the Summer School together with the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the person in charge of Social Welfare, Ángela Llorca, recalled that “as in previous editions, different enrollment modalities have been arranged so that families have the greater flexibility when registering minors ”. In this way, they have been able to choose between monthly, biweekly or weekly enrollment, depending on their needs.
The municipal contribution to the Summer School this year has been 44,792 euros, an amount "which is intended to facilitate the attendance of minors to this activity." The bulk of this contribution is intended to cover 100% attendance and dining room service for students from families with significant financial difficulties or severe material deprivation. In total, "during the month of July, 52 children have received this scholarship, and 42 in August."
In this regard, the mayor of Social Welfare has detailed that “of the 29,792 euros that have been allocated to grant scholarships for the full attendance of these students, 22,308.17 euros come from municipal funds, while the remaining 7,483.83 euros come from a grant from the Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies ”.
In addition to these grants, those of the Department of Education, which also partially grants scholarships to the rest of the minors who participate in this activity and who are registered in Benidorm, receive part of the cost of the Summer School. For this purpose 15,000 euros have been reserved. Families of registered minors may request this compensation from September 6 to 20.
On the other hand, Llorca has reported that "the Department of Social Welfare also pays" 100% of the attendance to the seven students with functional diversity who have attended the Special Education classroom of the Summer School during the month of July and August". The Department subsidizes this classroom with 6,000 euros, which is managed by Asmibe, whith the same timetable as the Summer School and which has several monitors.
