Classes began on July 3 and will continue at Leonor Canalejas school until August 26
Seventy primary school students participate in the Summer Educational Support Program in Benidorm

A total of 70 primary school students are attending the Summer Educational Support Program (SESP) during July and August. This program, organised year after year by the Department of Education of the Benidorm City Council, offers tutoring classes to students who have not achieved the expected academic results during the previous academic year. The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and the Councillor for Education, Maite Moreno, accompanied by the Councillor for Youth, Ana Soliveres, visited the Leonor Canalejas public school this Thursday, where the program is being implemented, to inquire about its progress and to hear the impressions of students and teaching staff.
The mayor emphasized that "with the SESP, we aim to ensure that participating students between the ages of 6 and 12 can begin the following academic year in the best possible conditions, having worked during the summer on the subjects or aspects in which they may have had the greatest difficulties during the previous academic year." In this regard, Pérez emphasized that this service, offered by the Department of Education with municipal staff, "has once again been very well received by Benidorm families." He also noted that "in addition to being a very useful and necessary educational resource to help students who need additional educational support, the PAEV also promotes the work-life balance of these children's families" during the summer holidays.
As in previous years, the program runs from Monday to Friday, in two daily shifts, based on age groups. The first shift, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., is open to students in grades 2, 4, and 6, while the second shift is open to students in grades 1, 3, and 5. During these two hours of daily classes, students reinforce curricular subjects—such as Mathematics, Spanish, Valencian, and English—and work on study techniques, as well as attention-enhancing games and verbal and mathematical reasoning.
Toni Pérez explained that "to facilitate the attendance of the maximum number of students, the Department of Education has awarded the seven scholarships requested by families. These are individualised grants aimed at minors registered in Benidorm, covering 100% of the program cost." In addition to these scholarships, children from large families, single-parent families, families with disabilities, foster families, or families with parents or guardians holding a Youth Card, retired families, or pensioners received a reduced rate; while attendance was also completely free for large families or special single-parent families, as well as for families with people with disabilities exceeding 33%.
For her part, the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, emphasized that this program aims "not only to improve academic results but also to help participants acquire organizational and perseverance habits in their work, reinforce their mastery of basic instrumental techniques, and increase their academic expectations." The councilor went on to explain that the program "offers language assistance to students who, due to their background and limited language skills, have difficulty integrating into the school environment and facilitates access to educational support for students from low-income families."
The PAEV program continues every day this month, from Monday to Friday, until August 26th. Diplomas will be awarded to all the children who participated in this edition on the following day, on Wednesday the 27th.
