1,715 Primary students participate in the 16th School Contest of Drawing and Painting of 'La Barqueta'
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, who has also the competences in Education, has inaugurated this afternoon the exhibition, accompanied by those responsible for the areas of Culture and Fiestas: Ana Pellicer and Jesús Carrobles; other members of the corporation; and the presidents of 'La Barqueta', Francisco Llorens, Paco 'Rosera'; of Comissió of Festes Majors Patronals 2018, Paco Marín and of the Association of Penyes 'Verge del Sofrage', Dani Luque. The exhibition gathers almost 330 works that compete for prizes that will be presented on March 14 in the Hall of the City Hall.
Toni Pérez pointed out that the Finding is "our most beloved heritage", the one that "marked a before and an after in the future of this city". Pérez recalled that March 16, 1740, when a drifting boat reached the coast and was rescued by "thrown sailors and fishermen. And in the end, there is our patron and perpetual mayor. " Precisely 'La Barqueta' every year is committed "to put in value this fact, with its staging, and to remember, through our school, to all the people of Benidorm the importance of the event."
'La Barqueta' Contest attracts more children each year. The number of participants, has revealed the mayor, has been 1,714 schoolchildren, students of primary schools in Benidorm, from 6 to 12 years. Of them, "about 330 works have been preselected," Pérez said, "to enjoy at Casa del Fester." A sample "that will attract the visit of thousands of citizens" and that set in motion what will be some great celebrations: "anniversary of the Trobada and the Arrival of Mare de Déu del Sofratge in Benidorm".
The exhibition of drawings can be visited until March 16.
