With a budget of 2.1 million euros, of which more than 700,000 come from European funds, this is one of the most emblematic works of EDUSI Benidorm
Work begins on the Séquia Mare de Benidorm Youth Hostel and Interpretation Center
The future municipal hostel, "the first major building work specifically for the youth of Benidorm", includes an Interpretation Center that will value the ethnographic heritage of the Séquia Mare and a multi-adventure camping area with zip lines
The works of the Youth Hostel and Interpretation Center of the Séquia Mare park have already begun, one of the most iconic actions of the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) of Benidorm. "Today we begin to see the works of this great intervention, one of the most emblematic of the EDUSI Benidorm, which will provide a new space for the leisure of the youth of Benidorm and which will also value the key role of the Séquia Mare in the repopulation of Benidorm at the end of the 17th century," explained today the mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez, who visited these works accompanied by members of the municipal corporation. "Our first objective was to protect and preserve the pine forest of the Séquia Mare park, so this action will not affect the environment or the existing trails" explained the mayor, who has emphasized that "this is the first major infrastructure dedicated specifically to young people, a social project that we have been proposing for years: a hostel and a camping area bordering the urban fabric of Benidorm connected to numerous educational and sports public resources in the city”.
The innovative space for leisure and culture, adapted to the natural environment of the Séquia Mare park, has a budget of 2.1 million euros with a European contribution of more than 700,000 euros. "We are building an avant-garde building, perfectly integrated into the landscape, equipped with various spaces to make the most of this new infrastructure," detailed Toni Pérez. “It is a high-performance center in a spectacular enclave that will allow visitors to learn about the history of the water culture in Benidorm, thanks to the Interpretation Center that will remind us of our roots and pay tribute to Séquia Mare itself.”
"The hostel is designed so that the numerous youth groups and organizations in Spain, who seek to enjoy nature, have a place of reference in Benidorm for their activity," the mayor explained. "It is not a space to use: it is intended for organized activity, such as collectives, groups, or associations so that they have the opportunity to learn about Benidorm's heritage with the new Interpretation Center and enjoy nature in the heart of the city."
Thus, the Séquia Mare Interpretation Center and the accommodation area will be created on the first floor, while the ground floor will be reserved for public areas, such as the dining room, playroom, or cafeteria, which will be connected to the reception area. camping and multi-adventure abroad. The building also includes two public squares: one facing the park's pine forest and a rear one facing Puig Campana.
Another of the novelties of this construction is its avant-garde design, which highlights the green lung of the Séquia Mare park: "thanks to the innovative design that we have proposed so that both the Hostel and the Interpretation Center will open to the outside to take advantage of the characteristic good weather of Benidorm.” It is a project signed by the architect Jose Manuel Escobedo, from the JAS Arquitectura studio.
The building, like all the actions of EDUSI Benidorm, will be completely sustainable: it meets the highest standards of energy efficiency and reduction of light and sound pollution. The action also respects the natural environment of the Séquia Mare, including the existing bicycle and pedestrian paths.
"With the Séquia Mare Hostel and Interpretation Center, we expand the cultural and leisure offer of Benidorm and we vindicate our roots, providing the city with an interpretation center linked to the water culture of Benidorm and the Marina Baixa" has declared the mayor Toni Pérez. “It is a great effort that we make from the City Council and Europe because we have a very broad concept of Benidorm: there are endowments that improve us as a tourist destination, but, above all, as a city. We will only have the best destination to come if we have the best city to live in ”he finished.
The total investment in the work of the Séquia Mare Youth Hostel and Interpretation Center amounts to 2,177,500 euros, of which the European Union contributes 720,000 euros through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The construction, of great impact in Benidorm, is included in the fifth line of action of the DUSI strategy, which seeks the "rehabilitation and enhancement of public assets, opening them to tourism and citizen use".
