Participate in the V International Victims Forum held in Alicante from December 7 to 9
Victims of the armed conflict in Colombia recall the 'Pact of Benidorm' of 1956
More than thirty participants of the V International Forum of Victims of the social and armed conflict in Colombia that, from today and until Sunday 9, is celebrated in Alicante, have attended a visit to Benidorm City Council where they have been received in the Mayor's office.
The reason for the reception has been to recall the so-called 'Pacto de Benidorm' that on July 24, 1956 signed in the city Laureano Gómez and Alberto Lleras Camargo and that gave rise to the National Front, or political agreement between liberals and conservatives, which It was an important democratic advance in the country.
The delegation was headed by Luis Carlos Acero, representative of Foro, which gathers Colombian nationals living in Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Holland, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, in the capital of the province. Argentina, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia itself.
Toni Pérez has encouraged the participants in the Forum to persevere in the construction of peace in his country and has given as an example the Spanish transition that culminated with the promulgation of the Constitution, date that was celebrating its fortieth anniversary yesterday. The mayor has also referred to the intense relations maintained by Benidorm, twinned with the Colombian city of Manizales. At the end of the ceremony, the Colombian delegation delivered a commemorative plaque to the mayor.
