The City Council plants about 250 palm trees 'Cycas' and installs more benches to prevent pedestrians from occupying the landscaped areas
Urban Scene arranges the flowerbeds and gardens of Paseo de Poniente
The Department of Urban Scenery has arranged the flowerbeds and gardens of Paseo de Poniente that were most damaged by the improper passage of pedestrians. The councilor of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that "around 250" Cyca "palm trees have been planted in areas that lacked vegetation", which are those that are normally invaded by pedestrians.
According to De Zárate, it has opted "for this variety of vegetation to enhance the walk and also to avoid as far as possible that users pass over the plants", since each specimen has a height that goes from the 20 to the 50 centimeters of trunk. The councillor has pointed out that "last year we planted more than 3,000 pilgrims, which in many points are maintained, but in others they have not taken root because they are used as passage areas, avoiding the crossings enabled for that purpose". In addition, in these points "we are putting the same banks that are in the rest of the Promenade to act as a barrier".
De Zárate stressed that "the gardens are key" to maintain the aesthetics of "one of the most emblematic points of our city: a Promenade with numerous national and international awards and which is one of the places most visited by neighbors and tourists."
He also recalled that in addition to acting in the gardens and flowerbeds "we have also done on the wooden walkway of the Paseo located on the beach, and the entire facade of it." Thus, "the damaged gangway sections have been repaired, and a project is going to be worked on in order to renew it completely". To do this, tests have already been done with various materials to check the durability, performance and functionality of each before proceeding to the total replacement of the catwalk.
On the other hand, "the municipal technical services have proceeded to repaint the entire facade of the Paseo de Poniente from Elche Park to Vicente Llorca Alós avenue".
