In a first phase, with the Asphalting Plan, the first line of La Cala and Beniardá avenue were operated

The ‘Universal Accessibility Improvement’ project reaches the second line of Poniente, with the asphalting of 7 streets

01 October 2019
El proyecto de ‘Mejora de la Accesibilidad Universal’ llega a la segunda línea de Poniente, con el asfaltado de 7 calles

The Asphalting Plan included in the 'Improvement of Universal Accessibility and Sustainability of Benidorm' project begins this week its second phase of actions, focusing on the second line of Poniente, where the pavement of seven streets and avenues will be conditioned , as reported today by the Councilor for Works and Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate. Specifically, in this phase the pavement improvement of Vinarós, Vigo, Juan Pablo II, El Pinar, Mexico, Bolivia and Nicaragua streets is expected. To these streets is also added San Pedro street, located next to Elche Park.

De Zárate recalled that this project "Improving Universal Accessibility and Sustainability of Benidorm" is valued at about 2 million euros and funded "almost 50% between the City Council and the Provincial Council of Alicante." The project is divided in turn into six areas of action, among which is the comprehensive renovation of Elche Park, the Asphalting Plan, or the Sidewalk Plan - which has focused on Lepanto Street.

The first milling works - removal of the deteriorated old pavement - are being carried out from today on Vinarós and Vigo streets, between Santander and Vicente Llorca Alós avenues, which “are the sections that are very deteriorated”. At the same time, we are acting on “the patching of Juan Pablo II avenue, to eliminate the potholes that are on the pavement of one of the main entrance roads to Benidorm”. While these works last, at least one lane will be open per direction.

The third of the actions provides the improvement of road safety and access to El Murtal and La Cala schools. The asphalting work will start tomorrow, October 2, starting at 09.00 hours so as not to interfere with the entrance to these educational centers. The councillor has clarified that this asphalting is going to be done “by strips” and traffic will only be cut when the junction with the roundabout is done.

Also, sections will be performed on Mexico Avenue, where the pavement is "very damaged", and in Bolivia. After this action, and as De Zárate has advanced, the road that links this point with the El Murtal tunnels - and which lacks sidewalk - will remain as a pedestrian street. Subsequently, the Asphalting Plan will move to Nicaragua Avenue, “a busy street” that gives access to the municipal cemetery ‘Verge del Sofratge’ and currently has some potholes. Finally, it is going to ‘patch’  San Pedro.

All these actions are going to take place during the day, and will last "for more than a week."

De Zárate has pointed out that the total investment of the Asphalting Plan is 681,148.25 euros. In the first phase, developed in June, the stretch of Beniardá Avenue between the train track and the second roundabout of the CV-70 was paved; the stretch of Vicente Llorca Alós Avenue between the streets l'Alfàs del Pi and El Murtal; and the crosses of the paving works of Jaime I.

The person in charge of Works and Mobility has clarified that “the‘ Asphalting Plan is not over ”, since the City Council reserves several actions for the coming weeks. However, De Zárate said that "we will reach perfectly the deadlines set in the call of the Provincial Council of Alicante," which state that all work must be undertaken and justified before the end of November.
