The Ukrainian deaf Olympic team trains in Benidorm
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, have paid a visit to the representative team of Ukraine in the 2021 Deaflympics Games, which will be held, after its postponement due to Covid-19, in Caxias do Sul ( Brazil) between October 20 and 30, 2022.
The Ukrainian athletes have given the mayor a souvenir thanking him for their stay in the city that has welcomed them in difficult times for their country. In his words of welcome, Toni Pérez advocated a quick end to the armed conflict and announced that Benidorm has welcomed, for the time being, 400 citizens of his country, many of them children who are attending school.
The Ukrainian group of the Deaflympics has chosen Benidorm as the venue for the preparation for the event that has the participation of deaf or hard of hearing athletes from 109 countries.
A competition that has been held, since its first edition in Paris in 1924, every four years, like the Olympics.
