The last wind episodes have delayed the installation of the new luminaires
The traffic cut on Mediterráneo Avenue between Europa Avenue and Plaza de la Hispanidad is extended for a week
The section of Mediterráneo Avenue between Europa and Plaza de la Hispanidad will be closed to traffic for another week to complete the installation of the central lights on this road; a task that has been delayed due to recent episodes of strong winds.
The Councilor for Mobility and Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that “once installed, the strong winds do not affect these suspended luminaires, as has been evidenced in recent weeks in which gusts have been reached. of up to 100 kilometers per hour, without the lighting having suffered any type of damage. However, the wind does interfere with their installation, since the luminaires cannot be leveled, which is a task that requires maximum precision. In addition, for safety reasons, operators cannot work on mobile platforms when wind exceed 30 kilometers per hour are registered ”.
"These two reasons - the councillor has deepened - have caused a small delay on the initially planned calendar."
In this way, until next February 19 it will not be possible to circulate on Mediterráneo between Europa and the Plaza de la Hispanidad. However, the cut from Europa to Doctor Orts Llorca will be permeable, since on Doctor Orts Llorca Avenue will be allowed an access to vehicles with fords in that area. As in recent weeks, vehicles will be allowed to pass through the pedestrian section of Gerona Street. In this way, vehicles travelling along Europa Avenue in the direction of the downtown area must access by Gerona street -where the traffic is reversed- until reaching Esperanto street.
