The urban gardens are located on a public plot of 8,500 m2 in the Camí de la Parva and have been visited today in the campaign 'A pie de calle'

The award will be made by drawing lots and the bases will be made public in the coming weeks.

The students of l'Escola d'Ocupació Et Formem Benidorm II have completed the creation of fifty urban organic gardens in Camí de la Parva, in the l'Horta area. This programme, which has ten students with job placement difficulties, is supported by the Valencian Employment and Training Service (LABORA) and the European Social Fund with a grant of 482,716.80 euros.

The works, which have lasted for several months, have been visited this morning as part of the 'A pie de calle' campaign by the councillors for Employment, Citizen Participation and Public Space, Mónica Gómez, Ana Pellicer and José Ramón González from Zárate, in addition to the vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario, and some residents of the neighbourhood.

The first phase of these orchards has 49 plots, which have been carried out thanks to a European grant that the City Council requested to launch this program. The orchards are located on a plot of 8,500 square metres, in addition to another 74 existing orchards on Calle Italia (Els Tolls) and Calle Registrar Juan Antonio Baldoví (La Cala).

The area of the urban gardens will be surrounded by a fence and will have an exclusive access gate for the owners of the gardens once they have been awarded by lottery, the bases of which will be made public in the coming weeks. An area of aromatic plants with species such as rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil or mint has also been set up on the plot to avoid as much as possible the presence of pests that affect the crops.

The Councilor for Employment and the Environment, Mónica Gómez, stressed that this project "has been very well received by neighbours" and also because it "allows ten people with job placement difficulties or in risk of social inclusion to get a job”. The students of the employment program will finish their training in the next few days and will receive the Certificate of Professionalism Level 2. Mónica Gómez has congratulated all of them for the work they have done and has wished them speedy incorporation into the labour market.

The councillor has highlighted, on the other hand, that these spaces "are places of collaborative coexistence, which encourage participation and also allow the practice of physical and healthy exercise." For this reason, she has added, "We intend that they adapt to the needs of the neighbours". In that sense, Gómez specified, one of the objectives is that the creation of these urban gardens has a benefit for the population "It is a municipal land that we have put at the service of the neighbours".

As for the future winners of these new urban gardens, the councillor has detailed that "people registered in Benidorm and associations registered in the municipal registry" will be able to access them.

Although as many people as they wish can apply for them, "priority will be given to those over 65 years of age, the unemployed or those with functional diversity".
